Cnoc na dTobar Twin Room

  • 2 Guests
  • 1 Bedroom
  • 2 Beds
  • 2 Bathrooms

This is a twin bedroom with views overlooking the back garden and Cnoc na dTobar Mountain, the house is in the centre of the town yet is still very private as it is hidden in a wonderful garden behind a high wall. The room has a large window which allows light to flood in, yet good curtains to allow for peaceful sleep. Although in the town, the high wall and surrounding gardens give the ultimate private, secluded experience.

There are two large wardrobes as well as a sink and mirror. The original fireplace creates a focal point in this room with the two large single beds, each with bedside lockers and fluffy rugs to keep your toes warm in the mornings! The original wooden floorboards and elevated ceiling height add to the beauty of this room. As this was the Christian brother's residence, the shared toilets and shower rooms are located down the corridor where you have a view of the magnificent Cnoc na dTobar mountain. I have four other bedrooms in the house and can accommodate a total of ten people. You will have access to your bedroom, the bathroom and showers.

Breakfast is included and is a continental breakfast consisting of fresh fruit, soda bread from the bakery, overnight oats, homemade compote and spreads depending on seasonal availability. Breakfast will either be served in the dining room downstairs which feature long church pews and views of the garden or in the old farmhouse style kitchen with views of the garden and Cnoc na dTobar Mountain.

You may also use the library which is full of books for all ages and interests and the sitting room which has a television. We have a lovely terrace in the garden with a barbeque area where you can sit out on nice evenings beneath the cherry blossom tree. I will be staying in the house while you are there and will be working in the town, I will be around to assist you with whatever you need.

The Old Monastery is a place to come for a unique stay in an old house full of history and charm. You will be warmly welcomed into my home and I hope that all guests feel at home here, I love this area and very much and want all my guests to experience it to its fullest so I will be at hand to give lots of local tips on food, things to see, places to go etc.

The toilets are shared as are the shower rooms however all toilets and showers rooms have latches on the inside of the doors and are cleaned/inspected throughout the day. However, this is not a typical Irish B&B, the breakfast I serve is not a fry, the bedroom doors don't have locks as they are old solid wooden doors, they keys of which were lost many moons ago. Therefore I advise that no valuable property be left unattended.

I am very passionate about sustainability using eco friendly cleaning products, airdrying laundry, bringing little to no packaging into the home, buying in bulk from sources with refill facilities and operating a switch off policy on all electrical appliances and fixtures. All our waste is either repurposed, composted or recycled where possible. Therefore I ask that you avoiding bringing waste into my home, you may borrow my keep cups and reusable water bottles for your travelling in the local area and place them in the dishwasher when you are finished with them. Breakfast is made up of local produce with very minimal carbon footprint, vegan and vegetarian diets are supported but dairy products are also available.

The Old Monastery is so much more than a guesthouse, it is a chance to stay in a building of great historical significance. To meet people who uphold the values of kindness and generosity that we Irish are so famous for, to eat food of local produce and have a stay in a true Irish country home in an authentic town steeped in history and surrounded by natural beauty.

Location

My gate can be a little difficult to spot, so follow these directions and you'll find it easily!

When you drive into the town of Cahersiveen (from the Killarney direction), after the large petrol station on your left, take the next right hand turn which goes down a hill. This is my road, Bridge Street. Drive down this road about 50m or less, you will see a lane on your right hand side. After the lane on the the right hand side is a large grey house with plants at the front, after this is a long high stone wall, this is my wall. Set into the wall is a rounded recess with a small pedestrian gate, this is my gate, walk in the gate (mind your head on low branches above) and follow the path straight up to the hall door. If you have any trouble finding this give me a call!
