Tucked within walled gardens in the vibrant town of Cahersiveen, The Old Monastery is a Victorian home rich in history, community spirit, and Irish charm. Once a merchant’s residence and later home to the Christian Brothers, it now welcomes travellers seeking a slower, more meaningful way to experience South Kerry. This is more than just a place to stay — it’s a homely space shaped by slow tourism, community connection, and the everyday rhythm of Irish life.
Whether you're here to hike, surf, explore ancient sites or simply slow down, you're warmly welcomed — not just as a guest, but as part of a home that celebrates place and people.
Our rooms and shared spaces...
Our five individually styled rooms retain the old-world character of the house — think original wooden floors, high ceilings, and antique details. The doors, beautiful and solid, no longer have keys (long since lost), so we kindly ask guests not to leave valuables unattended.
In keeping with the building’s history as a residence for the Christian Brothers, some rooms are en-suite and some facilities are located along a dormitory-style washroom corridor.
Guests can also enjoy the library, stocked with books for all ages, and the sitting room, a large secluded garden, a relaxed space to unwind and connect.
We welcome guests for a minimum of 3 nights, to encourage slower travel and deeper connection with the area.

Sustainability: We minimize waste, air-dry our laundry, use refill suppliers, compost and recycle. You’re welcome to borrow reusable water bottles and cups for your adventures — just pop them in the dishwasher when done.
